Born and raised in Highland Park, I came home from college to start nursing in Dallas in 2013. Newly married, we had our first daughter in 2016 and moved to Highland Park in 2018. I fell in love with counted cross-stitch as a way to stay awake during night shifts at the hospital, and brought it home to stitch our family's Christmas stockings by hand, taking years per stocking.
Then the twins arrived at the start of the pandemic, and I started dreaming of a creative outlet that could also bring in extra income.
A local Park Cities mom mentioned she owned an embroidery machine. On her recommendation, I walked into Mr Sewing Stitch in Dallas 'just to look,' and walked out with our future: a 6-needle Baby Lock Array.
I texted my husband: 'Honey, I did a thing...'
Together, we started building a vision for how to turn something I'd turned to for creativity during long shifts into a real business.
We needed a name that could build a brand. We deliberated for about a month. Then one night, standing in our kitchen next to a bowl of yellow fruit, Brent, my husband, turned to me and said, 'lucky lemon.' According to him, I smiled.
The business started right there in the kitchen, and to this day Lucky Lemon operates right out of our home.
We developed our signature service. Customers drop off their items whenever it's convenient. We customize. They pick up whenever it works for them. It started with back-to-school orders, then grew into seasonal, personal, and gifting needs.
Just four months after the first stitch, Lucky Lemon launched our first website. We had been growing entirely by word of mouth. This was our digital introduction.
Alice + Olivia, a boutique in Highland Park Village, reached out. Their corporate team in New York had found us online and wanted live, on-site embroidery for an in-store activation, personalizing anything purchased, from jeans to cardigans, right there at the storefront.
That day we realized Lucky Lemon belonged out in the community. From then on, we started bringing live embroidery to corporate events, private parties, and luxury retailers.
With on-site events added to the mix, I knew I couldn't do it alone. I invited Bianca on-site with me for an extra set of hands. Her questions naturally evolved into a job offer, and she is still a full-time employee of Lucky Lemon today.
For my 40th birthday, I bought our second embroidery machine.
We brought a third embroidery machine into the studio.
I hung up my scrubs after 15 years as an RN to make Lucky Lemon Embroidery my full-time hustle. Brent and Bianca joined the team full-time, too.

Lucky Lemon Embroidery is a full-service embroidery studio based in Highland Park in Dallas, Texas, specializing in on-site embroidery, live embroidery events, and custom embroidery services. We bring live embroidery to events, allowing guests to create something meaningful and one-of-a-kind in real time.
In addition to on-site embroidery in Dallas and throughout the DFW area, we offer porch drop-off orders for local clients, bulk and large-scale embroidery for businesses and brands, and a growing inventory of curated items available for customization directly through our website. We also ship nationwide and travel for events across the country.
